Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) bitcoin trading volume reached a new high on Thursday.
According to the Skew analytical platform, on May 28, the value exceeded $ 60 million for the first time. In previous days, the CME bitcoin options market showed relatively low activity – volumes did not exceed $ 10 million.
At the same time, open interest or the volume of active options rose to a new high above $ 250 million.
The growth is observed in anticipation of the expiration of a record number of futures and options contracts on the last Friday of the month, that is today. One such contract corresponds to 5 BTC. According to Skew, about 2,000 option contracts in May totaling $ 94 million at the current exchange rate are subject to calculation.
CME opened the trading of bitcoin options at the beginning of the year. They are based on futures listed on the stock exchange since the end of 2017.
The volume of active positions in bitcoin futures currently stands at $ 427 million. The maximum on this indicator was reached on May 19 at around $ 532 million.
